  • SNOMED International is a multidisciplinary organization consisting of members and leadership from the College of American Pathologists (CAP); clinical content experts; medical informatics experts; United Kingdom's National Health Service representatives; liaisons from clinical specialties and government agencies; professional medical translators, editors and validators; physicians and nurses; a Scientific Director; and external stakeholders.  These individuals bring expertise in national and international standards, medical informatics, software development and implementation, database licensing, biotechnology, clinical and academic medicine, managed care, laboratory medicine, pharmacy, nursing, education and database services.
     
  • SNOMED International Mission is to advance excellence in patient care through the delivery of a dynamic and sustainable, scientifically validated terminology and infrastructure that enables clinicians, researchers and patients to share health care knowledge worldwide, across clinical specialties and sites of care. SNOMED International is committed to widespread adoption and implementation of SNOMED CT®.
     
  • SNOMED Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT) is a dynamic, scientifically validated clinical health care terminology and infrastructure that makes health care knowledge more usable and accessible.
     
  • The purpose of the SNOMED CT Core terminology is to provide a common language that enables a consistent way of capturing, sharing and aggregating health data across specialties and sites of care.
     
  • Applications for SNOMED CT includes: Healthcare information systems, electronic health records,  clinical decision support systems, research, clinical trials, computerized physician order entry, disease surveillance, image indexing and consumer health information services.
